It's very controversial

Hi everyone,

This is my blog, detailing the ins and outs of my Miss Chinatown Houston Pageant.

So I've been getting e-mails about the pageant and with each e-mail I'm feeling more and more like an outsider. What the hell are hot curlers?!?!?! Also, I'm not very good with the whole make-up/being girly thing. And not to be too cliche, but maybe this is a chance to prove I can hack it with the ladies (I know, I sound like a playa).

Today (if this sounds like this begins like an FML...you may be correct). So apparently there's a "swan dance" as the opening number (all you people missing the pageant must be crying with laughter right about now). We also had to get a dress for the number. So we all met at Forever 21 in Memorial City today. I definitely didn't know who I was looking for, and the coordinator wasn't picking up the phone, so I harassed anyone that looked Asian, "Excuse me, are you Linda, with Miss Chinatown Houston?" Yea...I may have stalked a woman briefly, her husband looked most concerned.

So I'm in the store early, looking for Linda (Clare's with me) and I see this hideous white dress. Yes, that's it in the picture. "Oh no Clare," I lament, "it better not be that one." It WAS!!! FML. Okay in all honesty, it actually looks pretty good and I definitely wouldn't have picked it off the shelf. Oh no...I've learned something already.

I hope all your summers are coming along nicely. I'm in the process of getting a place to live next year. I'm working at Rice and the commute from Katy is killing me.

Til next episode,

~Meems

  1. Wow, that would definitely be me... Maybe this is a sign that I should give beauty pageants a try, hehe. You're an inspiration, Mimi! ;)
    Love and miss you

  2. I like that story, and I look forward to the rest of this blog. I actually like the dress though!

And hot curlers are used for making nice, wavy soft curls - you know, that hair no one has and everyone wants that we told Kevin about. They're the step in hair technology between rollers you leave in overnight (very uncomfortable, eh?) and the curling iron. You heat up the rollers and leave them in for like ten minutes.

  3. I look forward to the updates. I wish I could offer you hair/make-up advice, but I'm only useful if you want hair that sticks up and out like an anime character and rocker chick make-up. ^^ So this will be an educational experience for the both of us.

Good luck with everything! If I'm not back in the States by the pageant, somebody better have taken pictures/video.

  4. Tee hee hee, your stories amuse me. I do actually like the dress, I tihnk it's lovely (just like you!). I hope finding a place to live is going well! Has work improved, or are you still having to deal with ridiculous expectations?
