So last week, on Wednesday, we had our photography session. It was at a studio in town and country mall, which apparently is very fancy now that they've torn down the old mall.
Anyway it was a "alvin gee" photography. Alvin Gee is a chinese guy who's a photographer, and a really good one too. The proofs are amazing! So I was really excited because I've been seeing chinese people in all kinds of roles, not just your typical engineering/medicine jobs like I'm used to. They like their jobs and they're unique and they had the support of their parents in ways I never had.
So I get there and I'm wisked away into a room where I'm made up and hair-sprayed. Seriously, helmet-like. Then the pageant ladies tell me my breasts look too voluptuous and I have to take off my bra. What kind of beauty pageant is this!?!?!?!
Then I'm interviewed for the chinese newspaper and news channel...in chinese...um yea...was not very prepared.
So then I show up on Sunday for the dance rehearsal. They had me strutting around in 4 inch heels for 3 hours. Not only did I work up a sweat, I worked out my obliques ;). So there are girls there with modeling experience, dancing experience and more. I'm the girl with programming experience, so naturally, I'm the only one flapping my arms and eating it.
We also started learning a dance. I don't dance. It's to All that Jazz. It's got some thigh rubbing a la the mean girls dance. I'm constantly confused by this pageant. Your boobs can't look good, but rub your thighs on stage? The dance is probably the most coordinated I've ever been in my life.
so here's hoping that I don't eat it next week when I'm decked out in my traditional garb.
see you next week :)

The mental image cracks me up.
ReplyDeleteGosh Meems, you and your voluptuous boobs. I hope you were wearing the bra I gave you :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a Chinese beauty pageant so of course, you're not allowed to have voluptuous breasts. ;p
